The Berry Firm tried a medical malpractice case in Oklahoma City

January 2013

The Berry Firm tried a medical malpractice case in Oklahoma City. The firm represented the attending surgeon and one resident. The patient suffered a complication during a lower anterior resection of her rectum, resulting in a small amount of vaginal tissue being included in the staple line. The patient had an external wound infection and developed a recto-vaginal fistula at the anastomosis site causing contamination of the vaginal area. The patient was re-hospitalized and later passed away. The plaintiff alleged that complications from this surgery resulted in the patient's death approximately one month later.
